Week 4

It's been the 4th week in HP. Things are good as usual. I am trying to follow up with the HDD case. More or less we have nailed down the rootcause for the HDD firmware issue. Now we want to show the problem to the HDD manufacturer's rep and let them resolve the issue.

Personally I am getting more comfortable here. So far so good.

Week 3

Third week in HP.

After the DOA case, a new issue comes up. It is an outstanding issue that affecting my whole production line. There is an issue with a particular HDD in a particular product. There seems to be an incompatibility issue between the HDD and one of the component within that product (the array RAID card).

Investigation is still going on....

Meanwhile, Friday was a good day in this week because we got to go for outing in East Coast area. Here we did prawning. It is rather a boring and fun activity. So boring if you did not manage to get any prawn. And well...so fun if you got one :D. Went to Bugis afterward to look for a bass after this event.

Week 2

I am basically getting busier in week 2. I start to receive email that is related to my work. The email is about a DOA (Death On Arrival or Defect On Arrival). Basically a product that malfunctions immediately when it reaches customers' side. The product must then be returned to our side to do some checking. Well the DOA this time is about enclosure. We tried to do some checking and testing but found out no error. FInally we had it went through standard testing procedure and did another round of stress testing but still we did not found any issue. In the end we returned the case to our store and wrote an 8D report.

8D report was such a pain in my previous company. Everybody seems to be hating it due to the complexity of the report. In our case though, the 8D seems to be just a normal report. We are allowed to write NTF (No Trouble Found) if we really had done a thorough checking and found no root cause with the product. In the previous company, the major headache is to find the root cause of a problem. It is quite difficult to find a root cause in that company's environment and setting because we do not only deal with machinery but we need to deal with human. Dealing with human is hard because there is a tendency for truth cover-up in case of mistakes. In short, the way and culture in HP makes more sense to me. A plus point!

Week 1

1st of August 2011 marked the my first day starting work in HP. I am excited and I prepared myself mentally to not underestimate the work. I learnt from my previous experience that work is not something that we can do without really putting ourselves into it.

My first impression of HP is that the work life here is pretty relaxed. Totally different compared to my previous work. No push around, no urging from production supervisors, not much pressure from others. Pretty much I can work comfortably here.

Lunch-wise it is also much different compared to before. More choice of cafetaria to go in here and the people here willing to go to some places like HarborFront area to have lunch there.

I also love the schedule and timing here. We do not really need to come on-time and no clocking in/out required. We can knock off on time at 5.30pm and seems like majority of people here abide by that time so we have a good culture here. OT culture, necessary or unnecessary, will pressure you a lot.

The field of work itself feels more familiar to me since it involves computer which I have been dealing around as a hobby for quite some time. I promised myself that I would still learn about website design to improve my technical skill even further so I can readily jump ship when the need arises. But after a week goes in here, I do not really feel the need to jump for at least another 1 or 2 years (provided the economy is pretty stable).

I give a big wide smiley face for the first week in here :).

Start of the Blog

This entry is actually written on 17th of Aug 2011 (Indonesia Independence Day!) but I purposely set the date to 31st of July to have a better blog chronology.

Basically I moved on to my new company on 1st of August 2011.

I was previously in a MNC semiconductor company. Started work there on 30th of June 2011. I realized I did not really like semiconductor work or manufacturing environment in general so I moved on to another company...in manufacturing department. Yeah, it is kind of f*cked up. Why would I moved to the same field if I do not like it. Part of it is attributed to the fact that I only have experience in manufacturing industry. I also have an experience in software and programming from my internship but I realize it is not good enough to take up a full-time job responsibilities. So I figure out I would stay in this company while gather myself together (I was very exhausted and drained working in my very first company) and learn new things to achieve my career goals.

Here starts the story of my cheerful-boring days in work.
